There and Back Again

October 16, 2017 by Sheri

Hello, my friends. This month I took a week long trip to visit my sister in Ireland. We took a weekend and visited Paris, France together. I didn’t have much time to write while I was there, but I took a lot of pictures as I walked the streets and museums of both countries. I know my creativity has been refreshed by the break, and I hope the cultures I’ve experienced will enrich my storytelling. These pictures will give you a glimpse of the things I saw…I wish I could upload them all! Enjoy.

What is France without crepes?
We looked for macaroons everywhere we went.
Mona Lisa was worth seeing, despite the crowd around her. There was so much to see in the Louvre!

The beautiful stained glass of Saint Chapelle. Each pane illustrated a book of the Bible.
We found these lovely hot air balloons in a Parisian garden center. There was an entire store of orchids!
The lights made the Seine glow at night.
Notre Dame Cathedral was my favorite part of Paris. No picture could capture how massive and intricate it is!
I lit a candle in memory of all the lonely children in the world.
We arrived in Notre Dame halfway through a majestic organ concert. Organs were invented for cathedrals, and this one made the whole place ring. I’m sure my pulse sped up during the loudest parts.
So many statues and carvings cover the face of Notre Dame…I wish I knew who they all were.
Of course we had to climb the Eiffel Tower. The view from the top was lovely. Afterward we took a break in a park nearby and I took this picture.
I ate my first full Irish breakfast when we arrived back in Dublin, complete with blood pudding(the black patty).
Me in the Butler gardens in Kilkenny. The narrow paths and hedges stirred my imagination. What kind of story could I set here?
The Butler House in Kilkenny. The red and grey together took my breath away.
Kilkenny Castle from the rose garden. I had to stop and smell each kind of rose. The color and scent created piquant charm around the cold stone castle.

What lovely pictures!! It makes me long to go even more! I cant imagine all the scenes the walls of those ancient walls have seen! Can’t wait to read any stories inspired from there!

Find some magic with me!

I know, it looks like I’ve only read fantasy thi I know, it looks like I’ve only read fantasy this year. This is not true, but they do make such lovely pictures. 🤩 Fantasy, especially YA fantasy, is the genre of my heart, and since my bookshelf space is limited, I tend to buy more of them. Did I mention they’re pretty?😅

Can you name five books you’ve loved this year?

My best tip for finding magic everywhere?
Go out and catch a few children.
Release them in your backyard.
Let them rummage in your cupboards and tiptoe into your bedroom with their treasures.
In the morning you’ll smell daffodils everywhere.

What is a day for? I found myself pondering this q What is a day for?
I found myself pondering this question as I meditated on Scripture this morning. I love to achieve things, and sometimes I get lost in the maze of caring for little ones while wanting to get something—anything—done. I’m living a dream life, saving money every day (by not using daycare😅). Half the time it feels too good to be true, the other half it is just too real and never seems to end.
But this morning I was seeking silence before God and it occurred to me that what I was doing was the point of my days. I am here to love Him and be loved, and show my children how to love Him and be loved. And I can do that to better effect because of the many tiny tasks they need me to do for them. They’ll see His love in how I prepare their food, teach songs, finally make the Playdough they’ve been begging for.
It’s the task of my life, and when these children are moved away, it will remain my task.
How lovely is that?
What are ways you let God show you He loves you?
